Doppelgone vs Duplicate Photos Fixer Pro (2026 comparison)

Updated November 7, 2026 · 8 min read

Duplicate Photos Fixer Pro, from Systweak, and Doppelgone both find exact duplicates and similar photos, and both let you review them before anything is removed. The big difference is where they work. Duplicate Photos Fixer cleans photos on your computer or phone, and also Dropbox, plus Google Drive on a Mac. Doppelgone has apps for your computer and phone too, and its Chrome extension also works inside Google Photos and iCloud Photos, so you don't have to download your library first. Duplicate Photos Fixer gives you more ways to tune the matching. Doppelgone keeps the best shot of each set and tells you why. On price, the Windows version of Duplicate Photos Fixer is a yearly licence, while Doppelgone Pro is one payment of $9.99.

We make Doppelgone, so for Duplicate Photos Fixer we've stuck to what Systweak's own website and store listings say, checked on 7 November 2026. Prices are from the US App Store. Features and prices change, so check them before you buy.

Where your photos live decides it

Photos in folders on a Windows PC or a Mac

Both handle this well. Duplicate Photos Fixer reaches more places. On Windows it can scan Lightroom Classic and Picasa libraries, and it can check a Dropbox account without downloading the photos first. On a Mac it can also scan Google Drive and Dropbox. If you organise your photos in Lightroom, it's the better fit.

Doppelgone's Windows app, from the Microsoft Store, cleans folders and drives on the PC. Removed photos go to a Removed folder next to your photos, then to the Recycle Bin after 30 days, with one-click undo. The Mac app cleans folders, external drives and the Mac Photos library.

Photos in Google Photos

Systweak's pages don't mention Google Photos. To use any desktop finder on Google Photos, you first download your library with Google Takeout, then scan the download, then find and trash each result in Google Photos by hand. Deleting the downloaded copy changes nothing in the cloud. The steps are in duplicate photo finders for Google Photos compared.

Doppelgone's Chrome extension works on photos.google.com directly. What you approve goes to the Google Photos trash for 30 days, and there's a one-click undo.

Photos in iCloud Photos

On a Mac or an iPhone, both apps work with the Photos library. When iCloud Photos is turned on, that library is your iCloud library, so a clean-up there syncs to every device.

Without a Mac or an iPhone, for example on a Windows PC or a Chromebook, Doppelgone's Chrome extension works on iCloud Photos at icloud.com. Apple's own Duplicates album is only in the Photos app on Apple devices. More in how to delete duplicate photos in iCloud Photos.

Photos on an Android phone

Both have Android apps that scan the phone. Doppelgone's moves removed photos to the phone's Trash for 30 days, and you can undo a whole clean-up. Cleaning the phone and cleaning your Google Photos library are separate jobs, so if your photos are backed up, you may want to do both.

How each one decides what to keep

Duplicate Photos Fixer groups duplicates and lets you preview each group. One click on Auto-mark marks every copy except one in each group. You can change how strict the matching is (similarity, bitmap size, time difference and GPS), and a Selection Assistant lets you set your own rules. Systweak's pages don't say which copy Auto-mark keeps by default, so check the marks before you delete.

Doppelgone keeps the best shot of each set, the one with eyes open, sharp and well lit, and shows the reason for its choice. If you prefer another photo, tap it to keep that one too. Nothing moves until you approve the clean-up.

What happens to removed photos

Doppelgone moves removed photos to the service's own trash, where they wait for 30 days: the Google Photos trash, iCloud's Recently Deleted, the Recycle Bin on Windows, or the phone's Trash. There's a one-click undo, and Doppelgone never empties a trash for you.

Systweak's product pages don't say where Duplicate Photos Fixer sends deleted photos. On an iPhone, photos deleted from the Photos library go to Recently Deleted for 30 days, whichever app deletes them. On Windows and Mac, check the app's settings before your first clean-up.

Price

Duplicate Photos Fixer is sold separately on each platform:

  • Windows: a one-year licence, billed again each year. Systweak's site shows the price in your local currency. The free trial removes up to 15 photos, and there's a 60-day money-back guarantee.
  • Mac: $14.99 in the Mac App Store.
  • iPhone: $7.99 in the App Store.
  • Android: see the Google Play listing.

Doppelgone is free for unlimited scans and 200 clean-ups. On phones, Pro is a one-time in-app purchase at the store's price. Details are on the pricing page.

Where Duplicate Photos Fixer is the better choice

  • You keep photos in Lightroom Classic, Picasa or Dropbox.
  • You want to set the matching rules yourself.
  • You're on an older system. Duplicate Photos Fixer lists Windows 7, macOS 10.8 and iOS 8 or later. Doppelgone's apps need Windows 10 or 11, macOS 14 or newer, iOS 17 or newer, or Android 11 or newer.

  • You want the best shot picked for you, with the reason shown, and you want to approve each clean-up.
  • You want favourites, videos and photos shared with you left alone.
  • You're on Windows and would rather pay once than renew a licence every year.
  • You have more than one library: one Pro payment covers up to 3.

Frequently asked questions

Does Duplicate Photos Fixer work with Google Photos?

Not directly, going by Systweak's own pages, checked on 7 November 2026. They list photos on your computer or phone, Dropbox, and Google Drive on a Mac, but not Google Photos. You would have to download your library with Google Takeout, scan the download, and then delete each result in Google Photos by hand.

Is Duplicate Photos Fixer Pro a subscription?

On Windows, yes. Systweak sells it as a one-year licence that's billed again each year. The Mac and iPhone versions are paid apps in Apple's stores, at $14.99 and $7.99 in the US store on 7 November 2026. Doppelgone Pro is a single payment of $9.99, with no subscription.

Which one finds more duplicates?

We haven't run a side-by-side test, so we won't claim either finds more. Both find exact copies and similar photos. Duplicate Photos Fixer lets you set the matching level yourself. Doppelgone also groups burst shots and picks the best shot in each set.

Can I use both?

Yes. For example, you could use Duplicate Photos Fixer on a Lightroom catalogue or Dropbox, and Doppelgone on Google Photos or iCloud Photos. Don't run two clean-ups on the same library at the same time, and review each one before you approve it.

Is it safe to delete the duplicates either app finds?

Yes, as long as one copy stays and you look at similar shots yourself, because those are different photos, not copies. Removed photos that go to a trash can be restored for 30 days. There's a checklist in is it safe to delete duplicate photos.

What to do next

If your doubles are in Google Photos or iCloud Photos, add Doppelgone to Chrome, open your library and run a free scan. Nothing moves until you approve it. For folders on a PC or Mac, or for your phone, get the app for that device from the download page. The free plan covers 200 clean-ups, and Pro is one payment if you need more.
