Doppelgone vs Google Photos Duplicate Remover (AENGIX): 2026 comparison

Updated November 8, 2026 · 6 min read

Google Photos Duplicate Remover, from AENGIX SL, is a Chrome extension that finds duplicate and similar photos and videos in Google Photos. Doppelgone is a Chrome extension that does the same job for photos, and also works on iCloud Photos, with apps for Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android. AENGIX is ahead on users, languages and video: it handles duplicate videos, and Doppelgone doesn't. Doppelgone shows the reason it kept each shot, and Pro is one payment for up to 3 libraries, where AENGIX doesn't show a PRO price on its listing.

We make Doppelgone, so for AENGIX we've stuck to what its Chrome Web Store listing says, read on 8 November 2026. We haven't run a side-by-side test, so we don't claim either tool finds more duplicates. Features and prices change, so check the listing before you buy.

Start with the free options

Google's own organising feature is Photo Stacks on Android and iPhone. Google's announcement says it groups similar photos taken close together and picks a top shot. You can choose a different top pick or turn stacks off. It's free, but it's a grouping feature, not a duplicate remover. For a library-wide clean-up of the cloud library, you need a tool such as the two below. There's a wider list in Google Photos duplicate remover alternatives.

What the AENGIX listing says

On 8 November 2026 the Chrome Web Store showed about 20,000 users and a rating of 4.0 from 79 ratings. The version was 4.4.0, updated on 14 October 2026, and the listing offers 11 languages. The developer is AENGIX SL, in Barcelona, with its own site at gpdrm.com.

The listing says it finds duplicate and similar photos and videos in Google Photos. You can let AI choose what to keep, or choose yourself. It shows each item's size and resolution and how much space it takes. Deleted items can be recovered from the Google Photos Trash, and changes sync across your devices through Google Photos.

Where AENGIX is the better choice

  • It's the more established extension. About 20,000 users is far more than a newer tool can show, and a long public record counts for something.
  • It handles videos. Doppelgone's clean-ups cover photos only, so if your Google Photos library is full of duplicate clips, AENGIX can help and we can't.
  • More languages. The listing offers 11 languages. Doppelgone's apps are in English only, so this is a real advantage if you'd rather work in another language.
  • Rules you set. You can choose which copy to keep by file size, resolution, shoot date, upload date or name.

Where Doppelgone is different

  • Both cloud libraries. The AENGIX listing covers Google Photos. Doppelgone's extension also works on iCloud Photos at icloud.com, which helps if you're on a Windows PC or a Chromebook.
  • Apps beyond the browser. There are apps for Windows (Microsoft Store), Mac, iPhone (iOS 17 or newer) and Android (Android 11 or newer). They clean the photos on those devices, such as camera imports, bursts, and pictures saved from chats. The Mac app also cleans the Apple Photos library. The Windows, Mac and Android apps don't reach Google Photos in the cloud. The Chrome extension does that.
  • The reason is shown. In each set Doppelgone keeps the best shot and says why. You approve every clean-up. Sets it is less sure about are marked "Your call".
  • Protected photos. Favourites, videos, motion photos and Live Photos, and photos shared with you are never touched.
  • A safety net. Removed photos wait 30 days in Google Photos' trash or iCloud's Recently Deleted, with one-click Undo.
  • Price. Pro is $9.99 once, with no subscription, for unlimited clean-ups on up to 3 libraries. That covers Google Photos and iCloud accounts, your computers and Android phones, together.

Who should pick which

Pick AENGIX if you only use Google Photos, you want duplicate videos cleared too, you want to set the keep rules yourself, or you want the extension with the bigger user base.

Pick Doppelgone if you also have iCloud Photos, you want the same tool on your PC, Mac or phone, you want to see why each shot was kept, or you'd rather pay once than risk a subscription.

Use both if you like: Doppelgone for photos, and AENGIX for videos. Don't run two clean-ups on the same library at the same time, and review each one before you approve it.
